More on Merchant Marine Stamps

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Expressing the sense of the Congress that a commemorative postage stamp
should be issued in honor of the S.S. LANE VICTORY.
Whereas the United States merchant marine has provided critical support to
the Armed Forces of the United States in periods of conflict throughout this
century;
Whereas the S.S. LANE VICTORY was one of the vessels used by the United
States merchant marine to transport equipment, troops, and supplies during
World War II, the Korean conflict, and the Vietnam era;
Whereas the S.S. LANE VICTORY was named for Isaac Lane, an African American
who rose from slavery to become a bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church,
and who later founded Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, which stands today
as a living museum; and
Whereas the profile of the S.S. LANE VICTORY on a commemorative postage
stamp would heighten the Nation's awareness of the many acts of heroism
rendered, and other contributions made, by individuals in the United States
merchant marine: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring),
That it is the sense of the Congress that--
(1) a commemorative postage stamp should be issued by the United
States Postal Service in honor of the S.S. LANE VICTORY; and
(2) the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee should recommend to the
Postmaster General that such a postage stamp be issued.
