The S.S. Lane Victory is owned and operated by the United States Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II (USMMVWWII); a nationwide, tax-exempt, non-profit historical and educational institution. Our mission is threefold:
- Educate the public about the importance of the U.S. Merchant Marine service to this nation’s military strength during times of conflict and economic strength during times of peace and promote a stronger U.S. Merchant Marine going into the future.
- Improve the scope of recognition for Merchant Marine Veterans, and to assist them in getting up-to-date information regarding benefits and awards due them.
- Maintain the S.S. Lane Victory in a fully-operational and sea-worthy condition so the public can enjoy the ship as she serves in her role as a living memorial and museum highlighting the contributions and sacrifices of the U.S. Merchant Marine Service and U.S. Naval Armed Guard during World War II as well as serving as a platform to inspire and educate future generations of American mariners.
The USMMVWWII board of directors, staff and the S.S. Lane Victory’s operational crew is composed entirely of unpaid volunteers. In addition to volunteerism, we also rely on financial and material contributions from individuals, as well as private and public institutions. All donations, and proceeds from cruises and film productions, go toward the organization’s operational costs or the ship’s maintenance expenses.
